Hippy Hippy Raspberries

As a physiotherapist stands over your 5 month old son flexing his hip joints, the last thing you want to hear is, "Well, he'll be going home in a brace today." That's exactly what I was told at the Children's on Wednesday.

This issue with their hips has been going on since they were born. With Mans breech, his feet in my pelvis and his butt in a hammock of tummy fat, he essentially had the weight of his brother on his shoulders. It's routine for a baby born breech at the Women's to have an ultrasound at 6 weeks to check their hips. As they were twins they decided to check both of the boys' hips.
At the 6 week check the joint was immature and I was told it maybe because they were 3 weeks early and to come back in 6 weeks. 6 weeks later I'm told they are still immature but according to the ultrasound Lincoln's is worse. So I'm referred to a specialist at the Children's.
And that's were I was on Wednesday.

Adding to the physio's worry was that my mum was born with dislocated hips and was in hip braces for the first 6 months of her life. She assessed both the boys and could not find any physical problems with Linc's hips, even though according to his films his are worse. But Mans' left hip is really stiff. She decided to discuss the films and her diagnosis with some collegues and thankfully decided that for the time being we are to give Mans some physio and in 6 weeks time both the boys are going to have an x-ray.

I'm nervous about exposing the boys to x rays at such a young age.
I'm worried the physio won't work.
I'm paranoid the braces will need to be used and won't work.
The 20th of July is D-day.

On a happier note, it doesn't seem to be fazing either of them.
They are both rolling over more and more now, and are trying very hard to get their legs under their bums. They just don't have the arm strength to get up on all fours yet.
They are enjoying their solids. (Recommended to me by the MCHN so no hate mail please).
Their hand eye coordination is improving in leaps and bounds.
They are very very vocal, making you very aware of how they feel with their noises and tones.
And Mans has learnt to raspberry.

5 months old on Monday. Gee, time has really flown!
